Haig
Haig Road emerged from the subdivision of a double block, transforming an existing Queenslander into a home capable of standing confidently on its own.
The defining gesture is a curved roof form that establishes a circular courtyard at the centre of the extension. Acting as both a source of light and a spatial organiser, the courtyard creates a constant relationship between architecture, landscape and sky.
Almost every room engages with this central space. Natural light penetrates deep into the plan, cross ventilation is encouraged throughout, and views are carefully framed to maintain a sense of connection across the home. As sunlight moves throughout the day, curved shadows animate the surfaces and reinforce the geometry of the intervention.
Materiality balances warmth and robustness. Timber and off-form concrete provide texture and permanence, while carefully selected stone introduces moments of richness and contrast. A sunken lounge anchors the living area, creating a more intimate scale within the broader open-plan arrangement.
The result is a home organised around a single, memorable spatial idea — one that brings light, landscape and daily life together at its centre.
